Environmental Biology Field Research Experiencesfor high school sophomores/class of 2010
IF SO, THE Environmental Biology Field Research Experience program is a great way to meet new friends, learn how scientists study environmental issues, and earn some money. It starts with a one-week summer session, June 9-13 or June 23-27 (indicate date preference on application form), with ecology educators at Shaw Nature Reserve. Learn about advanced field research techniques, plant and animal identification, census taking, and use of GPS and GIS technology. The summer session consists of day-long meetings, plus one overnight Thursday to Friday at the Dana Brown Center. Bus transportation from a central location TBD to Shaw Nature Reserve will be available each day of the summer session. Then, during the 2008-09 academic year, join an actual field research team doing projects involving invasive species management, prairie reconstruction, wetland mitigation, or prescribed burns at Shaw or Washington University's Tyson Research Center. One winter weekend overnight session will be held at the Dana Brown Center. Participants who complete the 100 hour school year experience will be paid $350. The National Science Foundation provides support for this program through Washington University in St. Louis and the Missouri Botanical Garden. Application and two reference forms are required. Deadline April 18, 2008. Important dates
